Ken was born, in
1957, in Mountain Home, Idaho. His mother and father were
both raised on horse operated farms. In the early sixties,
after his father's death at the age of three, Ken's family
moved to a rural Spokane area. During this time, his
family had no horses of their own. This led him, at
the age of thirteen, to walk ten miles to a friend's
home, who's grandfather was a horseman. Here he would ride
with his friend from daylight to dark.
By the age of
seventeen, Ken was working for Axtell Land Co. Again
surrounded by horsemen, he furthered his experience and
knowlege of horses. By the age of 26, Ken had married
Mr. Axtell's daughter and started a family of what would
become four sons.
In
his desire to train safe horses for his children he began
training horses professionally. For the past twenty years he
studied the many famous training techniques, in order to
develop a well rounded approach to his own training methods.
Ken soon began producing calm, dependable, and impressively
versitile horses. Today Ken is the co-founder of Canyon
Quarter Horses. He has breed and trained some of the most
dependable and equally beautiful horses I have had the
pleasure to be around. Ken taps into the mere potential of
each horse he trains. Discovering how each horse responds
allows him to define the training method. Some horses are
naturally calm, some are naturally hot, but in any case this
is what Ken is so skilled at deciphering.
Communication and transfering confidence from horse
rider to horse is the focal point of Ken's
philosophy. Ken also has a great deal of
experience training mules!
